Artist Statement: cancer
Through oceanic and figurative symbolism, cancer pervades the surface between internal and external worlds. Beneath the opaque layers of skin, cancer cells cluster and fester in poisonous hues, entirely unseen. The ocean’s rippling surface conceals undulating currents and ultramarine shadows. Assumed transparency lures us into a perceived intimacy with our reflections, unaware of the baroque distortions. A brittle shell, pried open to expose the vulnerable flesh underneath, unveiling inner mysteries. Slipping into the puddles of moonlit mirrors, cancer saturates in the glittering depths of opalescent identities.
